new to forum and carb troubles
Reply Quote
Hi I am new to this forum so may not find my way around well at first. I have a 82 silverwing interstate and I read a post from a guy who smells gas at a stoplight. I had and have this problem I found that my right carb is overflowing I have cleaned the needle several times and it seems to help for awhile I dont know what to do next I also wondered if the gas tank selector could have anything to do with it. I had trouble with it last year and put a kit in it wish I could just get a normal on off reserve and put on it. sorry my main concern right now is the carb needle (by the way I ride this bike a lot from going to work to 400 plus mile days and I do own a couple old sportsters)  thanks for any help.

Although they are not meant to be adjustable I have successfully done so,

The carburettors I've just taken off one of my CX have been giving good service for nearly 5 years and have full plastic floats adjusted by the above method and the FNV re-ground with toothpaste.I had to re-do the float height on one side last year and this year I've just put a spare serviced set of carbs on so can service the ones that have just come off.

HTH :)

Last year I had the same problem of smelling gas/carb overflow on my CX500.  Cleaned the needle valves but that didn't solved the problem.  Adjusting the floats to be in specification did solve the problem.  Mine were metal however.  Hope you can get your plastic floats adjusted.
