Bryan, I did not mean that you and Shep were confused.
I should have said that Larry had gotten you mixed up when he thanked Shep for the
vinegar/aluminum polishiing.

Actually thought "vinegar" was your initial suggestion Harold - I just agreed - and added my 2 cents worth ..... really doesn't matter - as long as it works ....... what actually confused me early was - I was wondering who was gonna soak their carbs in "Bud Light" first ???  .......  much stronger solution with Moosehead Dry <LOL> ...... it won't eat aluminum but it might become a substitute for gas in a pinch - so always carry a few extra cans - just in case <grin> ....

Cheers,

Bryan

Harold, I was impressed with the vinegar, but it still has not eaten any of the calcium of on the set that is still in the white vinegar. The solution to the idle jet might be to pour some CLR in the jet passage, after you tape up the idle holes inside the venture, and a plug in where the idle adjustment screw goes.  Let it sit a while, Take the tape and plug out, then rinse really good with water hose to neutralize the CLR and spray it out with as high pressure as you can. I think that would work. Give it a try!

Bryan; I was NOT going to waste my BUD LIGHT   on the carb are you kidding! No matter how much I wanted those carbs cleaned, "I", am the one that it was intended to SOAK....LOL...
And thanks for letting me know about the Christmas lights! I did not know they were supposed to be taken down! Now I have a longer to do list also.....Gee Thanks Bryan....wheres my beer...LOL

Aye Larry - I was planning on leaving the Lights up as well - but there was an inch of dust on the bulbs - so was afraid to turn them on ..... so, housekeeping is not one of my strong talents ....... yet, beer drinkin' is ..... especially on stormy days that I can't get out n' ride ....... but haven't tried "Bud Light" - as prefer a bit stronger .... ie: 6% Moosehead Dry er 5.5% Molson Canadian er 7.0% Canadian Shots ......  Sorry to add to your list - but as I cross off one - I usually add 3 ....... otherwise, again, good job on the carbs - as surely will be useful to many ........ still don't know why all jets aren't totally accessible ...... actually do understand, as that way they sell more - but where's there's a will there's a way EH - n' you found it !!!

Cheers, n' Happy "Bud Light" n' "Moosehead" ahead, ..... shoot gotta walk up to the corner for another dozen !!!!

Harold - I don't have a map of N.B. nearby - but never heard of Washamado <sp?> Lake ...... are you near Fredericton ??????  Just curious as I do take some road trips to N.B. every year ..... mostly Moncton, as I have cousin's there ... and a couple friends nearby in St. John's and St. Marie ....... but also go over to P.E.I. via the bridge ...... so thinking maybe sometime we could get together for a little ride ????? Speaking of which - what is the COOL car in your avatar ?????

Thanks, Larry!  This could well be the gremlin that's been haunting my carbs and making a better tune so elusive.

What size easy-out did you use?

Thanks,

Randall, the easy out is from a 5 piece set I got from Mac Tools years ago. They call it a Screw Extractor set. The one I used says its a size 1, 5/64th. Get a really good set when you do, no cheap ones! You don't want one of these broken off inside that jet. I hope it works as well for you as it did for my carbs. By the way, the drill set was Mac Tools also.

Larry, half an hour ago I would have agreed about the CLR,,but after
soaking in the vinegar only I now have the jet clear,,or very close and will be able to by tonight.
I tried blowing air through the idle jet 4 or 5 times today with varying degrees of success, one time air would move and then the next time it would not.
Then I realized that it might be better to blow air from the other side, so I held the air hose against the passage in the air cut-off chamber, I could not get a tight seal so I was only getting about 30 lbs pressure, and air was blowing out the holes in the throat of the carb, so I put my finger over those holes while blowing the air,,still not  much air was moving through the idle jet, then when I blew air back through the idle jet from the other end I thought I must have a hole in the hose or did not have the passage closed off that goes to the stack that holds the 78 jet, because it would only build 90 lbs back pressure, which is the same as when I blow through the clear jets.
But there were no leaks ,,all at once it was clear. Actually it is showing 91 or 92 lbs, but I think that one more soak for 5 or 6 hours and it will be as clear as the other
jets

There is a hole in the 78 stack that goes into a passage down the outside of the stack you can see in the first pic you posted on the previous page,it looks like it goes in under the silver disc, ,did you know where it goes?

Bryan,
I am 20 miles past Sussex toward Fredericton,,south of Grand Lake.
The car is a 1937 Dodge 3 window coupe, It only exists on my computer, I do have a 37 dodge coupe but it is not finished, and as all other 37 Dodge/Plymouth coupes it is a 5 window. They did not make a 3 window with long doors as in the pic, also it has about a 3" chop, which I did in Photoshop. That is my inspiration to finish the car.

I have a nephew in Halifax, he is in a band (actually a couple).
I thought I may get down there sometime this summer to see him or if you are in N.B. let me know,,though it is not a good time right now,,my father is in hospital, and I just learned today that they are going to admit him into palliative care tomorrow.

Thanks again, Larry.  I found a Craftsman set that I might pick up.  The two reviews on the site complained about breakage, but I suspect the reviewers were using something other than a tap wrench.  I'll check out Mac Tools, too.

My other emulsifiers were so dirty, there's no way that these can be clean.  Your discovery explains why substituting a better set of diaphrams didn't fix my overrun sputter.

Aye Harold - Sorry to hear about your dad ....... I lost mine back in '99 - so understand priorities ...... otherwise, I kinda thought you were in Northern N.B. (good guess) ..... and haven't been through there in many years - but about time I'd say again !!!! ....... n' if your ever around Halifax for any reason - give me a call and I'll gladly show you a good time ..... as we can ride the windy roads n' partake in some 8 ball at the Legion- or just sit in the backyard and have some steak n' lobsters n' brews ? ....... ie: What's the name of your nephew's  bands ?  (Rock, Pop, Blues? er Country?) I may know them, as I've been promoting bands in the area for years ...... just another hobby - but got to know quite a few over the years ...... Anyway, knew it was an ol' 30 something roadster, but couldn't totally identify .... "Plymouth" was my first guess ....  with ol' Chev my second .....  funny Dodge didn't even pop into my mind till you mentioned it ????? Aye, now I can see it clearer .....

Cheers, n' Take Care,

Bryan

Thanks Bryan. The name of their band is "Down with the Butterfly" they have been together for about 3-4 years, they are taking a break right now but my nephew is playing in the band with "Jen Grant" and made an appearance at the ECMA's in her video "Dreamer" playing steel guitar, by the way, in that song she mentions "the rotary" and "Chocolate Lake".
They also have a side band called "Acres and Acres", if you like Neil Young's music
you will like them,,if you like rock/alt, try Down with the Butterfly, their myspace page is listed below,,you can get to Acres and Acres page from their top friends list, I like it all, but I suppose I'm partial.

edit;
I mistakenly had Juno's where ECMA's is.

DWTB was nominated for 2 ecma's though

Haven't heard of them before - but have heard of "Jen Grant" n' do know "Chocolate Lake" and the "Armdale Rotary" - as my backyard !!! .... anyway, will check them out and let you know my honest opinion ..... I do like Neil Young music - so imagine I'll enjoy !!!! Albeit my biggest quest at present is whether to walk or run to the mall for some more brews - as doubt many pool players will be at the Legion tonight - so as always, just taking one day at a time !!!!!

Cheers,

Bryan

Your welcome Randdall, I'm sure it will work out. Just make sure the extractor is seated well before you try to twist and pull at the same time. Let us know how it runs.

Harold; sounds like your on your way to getting them done. Just remember though, how fast the CLR dissolved the calcium. Since your not pulling them out, you wont be putting the drills through the holes to make them perfectly clear again. That's worth a couple minutes to do with the CLR if you ask me! If you do, you could compare the air pressure with both types of cleaner.
The hole your referring to under the 78 stack is the air bleeds that go to the top just under the slider piston. I had a few that were slightly build up with a tarnish like feel to it. That's why I posted the jet drill sizes in the picture. Those are so small that any restriction could effect the amount of fuel being sucked in through the jets. If you look closely you will see that both the secondary and idle jet stacks or both connected inside, and, through the air bleed system. One effects the other equally I'm sure.

I'm back out to the garage! I finally got the polished radiator and grill done, carbs done, and I got my new shocks today too. (i think their to stiff though, we'll see) Even with my shoulder sore, I'm hoping to get to ride it tonight. It's been to long! I'm so hopeful, I have not even gone to the store for the Bud Light. Sit down Bryan, I know that just made you gasp and week at the knees......LOL

Actually Larry - I'm sweating bullets right now - as just got home from the Legion (only one there - so chugged a draft n' jogged to the corner store before it closed) - then walked home with something different " Labatt's "WildCat"  at only 4.9% - so slowing down) <LOL> ..... otherwise Harold - I listened to the 4 online songs - and do think their good, albeit young and still looking for their style - as didn't hear anything similar to Neil Young - but did hear ol' 70's to early 80's rock ..... n' as I already said they can play - their name reminds me a little of "Iron Butterfly" - n' would be cool to hear "In-agadda-davita" again ..... n' believe they could play it pretty good ...... so just a suggestion - but I do have connections here and know of hundreds of groups still looking for their style ..... yet definately not "Alternative" ...... Aye, told you I'd be honest !!!!

Cheers, n' Have a goodun' ...

Try a Phosphoric acid bowl cleaner (20-25%) for soaking stuff in to rid it of calcium and the like. Also a Food Grade phos product for cleaning coffee pots and the such.

Phosphoric acid is what is in Coke and makes your teeth feel funny when you drink it...it's desolving your enamel!

"Acres" - Now we're talking the same language - they are really, really good - n' do remind me a lot of Neil Young and Gordie Lightfoot (both of which I knew years ago) ....... also now know some who could help them out in and about Halifax - ie: Liz Rigney and most of Breakfast Television - CTV ...... along with Fred McGillvray of Metro Centre ..... and many more friends n' business relations ......... only thing is do they have more of the same or similar to make a recording - at least 20 songs ??????  Two songs will not make it ....... again, my honest opinion Harold !!!!!!!

Cheers,

Bryan

Well guys....she's up and running like a scalded ape. Man it felt good to ride again.  I got on the freeway, during rush hour though, and cracked the throttle when I got the space. I hit 85 MPH like it was nothing to her, she was asking for more! But that bumper on the back of the semi trailer I came up on said no. When I got off the freeway, it idled right back down and purred like a kitten. Those days I spen
