I went to a couple of places today to get new speedo/tach bulbs. They didn't have them. Does anybody know what bulb number they are ? I can't read the numbers on the corroded bulbs. They used to be common but they ain't anymore.

Hi Vanmor,
According to one of the manuals I have access to (Clymers I think) the instrument lights call for SAE 57 with a wattage of 3.4 watts and 2 candle power.
HOWEVER, I went to my local automotive store and picked up a #57 bulb, got it home only to find out that the glass envelope part was too big in diameter and would not fit into the housing....so off to my local Honda dealer I went to purchase the proper bulb. May have paid more than from an auto store but at least it was the right bulb for the right place.

Greg,
Somebody has to carry these. They used to fit behind the dashes of millions of cars.
I'll keep looking. May have to go to the dealer as you say.

I found the correct bulb at an O'Reilly, but I don't remember the number. I might be able to get to the package (in the on-bike toolbox) this weekend. Or you can take the old one with you, and find a 3.4watt bulb that looks the same.

OK, so I didn't find the package (it must not have been a two-pack like I thought), but I did find the receipt. The bulb I got is an Eiko 53BP, local cost: $2.69. It fit in my tachometer, which has the same bulb spec'd as for the panel lights.
It looks like this:

Hope that helps.

Thanks Randall.
I came across a box of 10 on e-bay for $8. So I jumped on em. $2 to ship. Hope they get here in one piece.
I'm getting behind the times. $3 for a bulb is a lot !
