Tim, One thing you are going to need - for sure - is a workshop manual, and you might have been lucky enough to get an Owners manual and air-pressure gauge in the plastic box/pouch which sits on an upturned tongue behind the RH sidecover (it covers the toolkbox cap, I think).
The Owners manual will help out immensely with familiarisation, and the workshop manual gives you even more info. on what is likely to happen in various situations.
There is also a thin CFI manual which is "light reading" on how the computerised fuel system works - this type of system needed expanation back in 1982, as it was one of the first of its kind.
Take it easy - don't rush things - they respond to TLC - you WILL like it when all is sweet, and you understand how it works.
