I am new both to the ownership of turbo bikes, and this forum. I purchased a bike with low miles but does not run. It has now been sitting in my garage for 3 years. I had gotten a hold of someone to help me out before. I have since lost contact with him. Are there any folks out there who would have a workshop to get this thing thumbed over?

Welcome Tim! Owning a turbo is real fun. I'm sure your first ride will convince you that your choice was a good one. I agree with Pete. This can probably be done over the phone, this forum or e-mail. No need yet to seek out a Honda mechanic. Let's start with the basics. What did the seller tell you about the bike? Did he tell you any specfic problems? If it did not run before you got it, do some basic maintenance. Check the battery and see if it holds a charge (I prefer a slow charge over 8-12 hours, with a low amp charger). If the battery does not hold a charge, just buy a new one (approx $32 at WalMart). Make sure the battery cables are tight and clean. Change the oil and coolant as a precaution (you don't know how long it's been, and how hard the riding was on that oil). Check and clean, or replace, the air filter. Once all of that is done, then install the battery (fully charged, of course), and see if the engine turns over with the starter. If it does not turn over, listen for the click on the strater solenoid. If it does turn over, but doesn't start, make sure there is fuel to the injectors and spark to the plugs. If it starts (and I'm hoping it does!) just let her warm up and make sure there are no engine misses while reving up. Also watch the "FUEL SYSTEM" lamp. If it lights up while the bike is running, then we will move on to advanced diagnostics (the ECU will self-diagnose what's wrong to some extent). Once the engine is running, and there are no real problems, then we can move on to overall maintenance ( tire pressure, cable lubricating,final drive oil, etc. Post your results here. Tim, One thing you are going to need - for sure - is a workshop manual, and you might have been lucky enough to get an Owners manual and air-pressure gauge in the plastic box/pouch which sits on an upturned tongue behind the RH sidecover (it covers the toolkbox cap, I think).
The Owners manual will help out immensely with familiarisation, and the workshop manual gives you even more info. on what is likely to happen in various situations.
There is also a thin CFI manual which is "light reading" on how the computerised fuel system works - this type of system needed expanation back in 1982, as it was one of the first of its kind.
Take it easy - don't rush things - they respond to TLC - you WILL like it when all is sweet, and you understand how it works.

I THINK I have a scan of the Turbo Factory Service Manual (I'll need to check the CDs R80Dave gave me.) If it's not to big, I can post a temporary link for you to download it. Hard copies are available from a couple vendors online.
There are a handful of forum members in Duluth. Some would probably jump at the chance to play with a Turbo. See if you can hook up with them.
