Anybody else find their bike's twin?

Exothermia 04-24-2008, 9:14 AM
I was looking on eBay at completed listings of CX's when I found a bike that looks identical to mine! That's particularly interesting since mine was painted a weird color and somehow this one ended up being painted the exact same color. Case in point:

That's the bike I found on eBay. And here's my bike:

The only way to tell them apart is they have different engine bars! I know there are a lot of original CX's in their original colors that look alike, but I can't believe two CXs were both painted like this - and I managed to find the other one. Needless to say I was surprised. Anybody else ever see one that you could've sworn was yours?

That was a standard color for non-US CX's, there are at least 4  on this board that I've seen repainted blue.  Makes sense, you
see the actual bike in a factory color not available here and decide you'll paint your own.

Bone Stock non-US market CX:

Wow, that's pretty cool. I had no idea they ever came in that color overseas.

If I only knew a good airbrush man, I'd go for the blue too, but ONLY if I could duplicate the "lightning bolt" on the tank. I know "the bolt" isn't for everyone, but I really like it, it's something that really distinguishes the CX.
Right now my bike's just a hideous WL (What's Left) of the original color. Total guess, but I'll bet Honda used the same blue for the CX that it was using on the Gold Wings at the time.

I'm having that "lightning bolt" recreated by a vinyl printer in Canada: bdesigns.ca.  I need to confirm a couple measurements for him, but I expect he'll have the patterns done by summer.

What will they cost?  I know the US "bolt" was the same on both Red and Black bikes.

That will depend on what colors you request.  I'm not quite sure what the final price will be for the stock red.  I'm supposed to get a nice discount for doing the tracings.  When I find out the regular price, I'll post it.

When i saw the bike, i had a particular look in mind that i wanted to achieve. Plus, i just couldn't get enough range with the Custom tank... it was driving me nuts. i sold the tank and side panels to someone on the board here, but i haven't seen them since.

It was the only used vehicle i've ever bought that had a decent paint job, so of course i had to mess with it
