Ahoy! Am a 27yr. old truck driver/musician/biker posting here from Eugene. I'm excited to see how many of us are here in Oregon. I've seen a few so far. As the weather improves we need to get together and enjoy some of this great scenery around here. I know it'd be great to find hookups on parts and such as well. Hope this helps the thread get rolling off to a good start!

If it wasn't for physics and law enforcement, I'd be unstoppable.....

I'm in Bend and have a couple CXs and some other bikes. Have been riding all around Oregon for 25+ years and would probably join in on a group ride or two this summer.

Nice I was born and raised in Bend!  I live out just past shevlin park out in Saddleback.  There's a chance I might end up either here in Corvallis this summer or back in the BND.

Sounds like a great idea!
I'm in between Salem and the Portland Area.
Oh, I work on helicopters, mostly electrical.

I've owned a 454, 535, and 550cc bikes for only at most a year each in the 80's and early 90's. Just getting back into it... Resurrected a SR250 last year that my brother has now. So Now I'm getting my Interstate going!

Do people still use the word "Peeps"?

I don't know if I fall into the Peeps catagory, but I am in Portland, and if the rest of the locals want to get together for a ride I'm in, just as soon as she gets out of the shop......

Ah I don't know, just thought I'd throw it in there.  Same here, minus the shop part, the shop being my backyard...  I need to get these damn exhaust leaks sealed up at the mufflers to the hbox, but I can't get any clamps that are worth a damn, the originals didn't come with the bike.  Any ideas?

Just wanted to keep this thread open. I'm looking forward to getting out the McKenzie river this weekend, taking advantage of this ridiculous heat. As the summer evens out and people have time, we should really plan a ride or two...

I met Da Bear today, he worked his schedule around mine, and gave me a grab bar for my rear seat!
Real nice guy.

HEY RUSTY BOB MADE IT

So this was my birthday weekend, and i took Rusty Bob all the way over to bend, from corvallis!  Didn't have a hickup.  This was my first motorcyle trip and man am I stoked!

Hugemoth I PM'ed you and you didn't get back to me i was hoping we could've hooked up in the BND but ah well, another time.

So the bike ran really well, till i got over to bend and pulled into the gas station.  There the idle was flutering all over the place, at first i thought it was the difference in elevation but to my dismay it is still happening over here in the valley.  I SeaFoamed it, but that didn't fix it unfortunently.  So it's time to take the carbs out and clean them up and definitely check the emulsifier.  This will be my first carb attempt hope it turns out well.  The clutch is starting to scare me kinda hard, and clunky, when shifting, usually in first and second.  I have no idea how to fix that, I already adjusted the freeplay on the clutch cable and that didnt' seem to do the trick, but i think the cable may need replacing, it has a crack with a bit of rust on one side.  What do you all think?

I really need to find a bike mechanic and befriend him (any takers?).  I just don't know enough to tackle these problems on my own.   So i'm going to be working on the bike on and off this week, i have the basic rider team oregon training this weekend so i don't think i'll be able to go for a ride, but maybe after that!

P.S.  51 mpg with the 883 sportsters, no rejet, and the hbox!  This is why i bought a bike in the first place.

You should copy and paste this in one of the other categories so everyone can check it out and give you some ideas, Pirateyarr. I'm sure there's lots of advice to be had....

Natrik, what do you think about painting the top of the carbs and the aluminum intake tubes black?  I ask you this seeinig as you have done some painting already on your bike, anyone can chime in.  See i'm painting the cylinder head covers black and then polishing the spines.  Or do you think it would look better to polish those parts instead.  Only down side is i don't have a polishing wheel...

Hey all, I just bought my son an 81 CX500 Deluxe.  We pulled the fairing off last night and we're loooking for a headlight and associated mounting hardware.  We're in Roseburg and would love to meet some CX bretheren.

Oregan Riders,

Here is a nice rally for you guys to cinsider going to to meet up. You could have a rally inside a rally. I know your bikes would be a hit. These are the kinds of rallies where you never even need to take you key out of your bike and everyone is friendly.

If there would be any questions asked, which is doubtful, just tell them that I invited you to go to the rally.

Sounds like fun.  Can't believe those BMW's want us tagging along, it must be our character and charisma.  Well here's the costs... (provided at their website)
  • Pre-Registration: $40.00 per person [must be post marked by 6/05/2008]
  • Gate Registration: $50.00 per person
  • 12 yrs and younger: $10.00 per person
This broke college student most likely wont be attending, but who knows maybe when I get a summer job going, I might have funding.
If there's a good turn out of people here with CX's I might consider it.

CascadeRider:  Welcome to the thread.  You can find the headlight assembly and what not on ebay for pretty cheap,  most all cx years are compatible.

Thanks for the welcome, PirateYarr!  I've looked on ebay and haven't found exactly what I'm after.  There was a bucket that went for about $40 including shipping.  No brackets though.  I have a couple of leads out.  Talked to Tim last night, who was very helpful and dug through a box of stuff looking for what I needed.

I'll keep up the search.

There's a guy here in Eugene who will have just what you want, I'm sure. Go to www.cyclepsycho.com. Lots of stuff he has isn't on Ebay, but you can take a "virtual tour" (a bunch of pics) of his shop and get an idea. I bet you can find one that is just what you need, even if it is from a different bike altogether. There's a link to his Yamaha chopper project in the links tab in this forum. Let me know if you head over here, we can go for a ride....
Also, Pirateyarr, if there's something he has you need, I can probebly pick it up from him and drop it off for you when I'm up there mondays or thursdays. Pretty convienient that you live three blocks from one of my deliveries....

If it wasn't for physics and law enforcement, I'd be unstoppable.....
