Careful things can go wrong
Reply Quote
Yes things can go wrong i am replacing the cam chain on my cx 500.  I had made the bevel gear holder and during the removal of the alternator i thought it would be easier if i hit the socket this was working fine until i looked around the back of the motor and realised that the bevel gear had chips off of some of its teeth.  This kind of pissed me off.  but wat madfe it worse was the fact that the case hade a slight crack in it along one of the bolt holes.  Although this will probably be fine it is rather frustrating.  Just for the sake of others attempting this use a puller even if the manual says you can use a bolt.

Are you sure the "crack" is not just a casting mark?(extra material left over from the casting process) They have scared me pretty bad before, till I scraped around and found what they were for sure.
If you can read this thank a teacher. If you are reading it in English thank a soldier!

The bolt will function exactly like the puller, if you use it correctly.  You're supposed to hit the bolt head, not the wrench.  The impulse transfers to the shaft to dislodge the wheel.

Crack?  JB Weld.  I cracked, no, broke in two the water pump cover where the chrome tube goes in last year.  While waiting for a replacement from Romanzx, I took a stab with the JB, and it's worked great so far, over winter and probably 1500 km.  I now have a spare handy of course, but I doubt I'll need it.

It's all good now i. Just drilled a 1mm hole infront of the crack should be all good.  A lesson learnt I guess.
