OK, so what am I missing....here's the exploded view of the GL fuel valve, a.k.a. "vacuum petcock". Where is the bowl filter? All I see is the strainer.

That diagram is for a 1981 or newer CX with vacuum petcock. The later CX's and GL's used the one with a bowl. Not sure of the exact cutoff dates, but that's definitly not a complete GL500I petcock in your picture.
1978 CX500 - I live on a one-way street that's also a dead end. I'm not sure how I got here, or how I'm going to get out.
