2008 HTTA Amish Rally Aug. 14 - 17
Reply Quote

This year I will be arriving from Dixie and I will be accompanied by a couple native Tarheel's  Don't ask me how that title came about, I don't know.

Folks, I have been told many times: The success of any event depends on how much you promote it.  Be aware that as of today, you are going to be seeing daily promotions to our 2008 Amish Rally.  It has been the most successful, enjoyable and inexpensive rally ever.  We have the use of a large camp/lodge in a Pennsylvania countryside setting for only $6.00 per person per night.  80 gallons of hot water, two bathrooms, four showers, two kitchens fully supplied with cookware and dinnerware. Upstairs and downstairs porches for bull sessions, even clean linen and blankets.  Did I mention, all this for a mere $6.00 per night per person??? I forget, downstairs also has a large living room.  Sorry, no TV.  Ask anyone who has been there.

How about I host a HTTA Blue Ridge Rally in my back yard in July?  Free tent sights, fire-pit, indoor shower and toilet (closed after bedtime)  Great mountain twisties and Blueridge Parkway tours.  Truckstop food down the road.  Let's hear it?

Phil, as busy as I am trying to get ready for the Alaska trip I just have to respond.  When you closed the bathroom you lost me!

Gene, I get the impression that the only formal toilet is rather close to Phil's bedroom - maybe there's a lemon-tree within walking distance outside, and Phil could supply one of those manual post-hole borers/augers for midnighters.

With enough interest, I would provide a path and an outhouse, a supply of paper and a bag of lime..

Reminds me of my first camping trip as a Boyscout. Forgot toilet paper and my pack shovel. The Scoutmaster made me use leaves and my hands to dig a hole the first time. Never forgot that stuff again. At least I knew what poison sumac and ivy looked like!

Phil, if you should choose to go ahead with your rally, you may want to consider planning around VMD.

Funny you should ask. Knee has steadily been getting worse. Played golf Thru. (stupid, but being stupid is how I got a bad knee in the first place) and it totally went out on me. Nothing sudden, just steadliy got more painful until I couldn't walk. Wasted the weekend just laying around. This was the weekend I was going to put the 650 back together and light it off. Crap. Calling the doc in a few minutes for appt. Bottom line is the replacement may be moved up which screws up all my travel plans this summer. Maybe if he drains it and gives me some heavy duty drugs I can hold out 'till November. We'll see. Thanks for asking.

Rich, from your comment I am assuming you are planning on making VMT this year.  If you do and you make contact with Jon please bring him up to date on what I am now riding and let him know I am planning to make VMD in 09, at least on 3 wheels I won't fall over in the mud!

Got back from the doc. I'm having knee replacement surgery Tuesday so, no trips for me this summer. I hate missing the rally and meeting you folks but I really need the surgery. I'll make it next yr for sure. Hopefully, Dick can be there.

It would be nice to see Jon again.  One of the reasons I'm going this year is the Triumph marque.  Who doesn't have a soft spot in their heart for classic Triumphs?  Probably will not go in '09, maybe every other or third year.  I've been twice and enjoyed it immensely, it's a great event for us "vintage" bikers.

Jon of Ohio, "manufacturer" of the trunk extenders a few years back.  Had a GL500, now a GW rider.  Fed Dave and I (the only HTTA riders that showed up that year) like kings a couple of years back at VMD.  A fine man, but his feelings got hurt.
