Off topic, guys, but does anybody know how to get the seat off of a 1987 vf 700?

Same way as my GL500?

I got it.

For those who may work on a similiar bike someday, there is a latch on the left side of the bike near the shock that you pull (mine was missing, and the cable attached to it was broken).

Glad you figured it out.
I had an '84, but for the life of me couldn't remember how to get the seat open.

One more thing on this bike, guys:

It is a Vt 700, not a vf.

Anyways, I'm helping my buddy get the bike going after sitting for years.

I pulled the carbs, cleaned them real good. Bike starts now, responds to throttle, etc.

What I've got, though, is gas pouring out of the bowl drain at too high of a rate. If I turn the fuel off on the petcock, it does not flow at all, but if I turn on the fuel, out it goes.

What have I missed, guys? I cleaned the needles real good.

Did you try tapping the bottom of each carb with the handle of a screwdriver. Sometimes that works. If the needles arn't seating you should replace them. Check the floats.

That would make it a Shadow, right?

I had the same bike. AAAAAnd it had the same problem. I would check the float hight. The carbs sit at a kind of strange angle, so the float hight is critical. Also the bowl gaskets are always under gas so if there is any problem with those it will leak. Mine backfired real bad until I replaced the cut off valves on the carbs. Other than that it was a great bike. It had a sixth gear overdrive and got 55 to 60 mpg routinely. The tack goes wonky on those, it is a diode in the tach assy. that goes bad. It is an electronic tach. Make sure that you grease the splines on the shaft drive where the drive shaft goes into the final drive.

Thanks, guys.

Pilot - yeah, I agree. Those carbs do sit at a weird angle.

PWC - it is a Shadow.
