Today the day started with a drive to the airport. My new brother in law who married my sister last April was home on leave for a couple of weeks. During those two weeks his daughter was born.
Today on our independance day I had the honor of driving him to the airport so he could fly back to IRAQ to finish his last 7 months of combat.
He is currently on his second stationing in IRAQ.
As he got out of the car, I presented him with a nice box of premium cigars. I told him that no soldier who has fought to keep me free and just had a baby girl was going to go back to IRAQ and his fellow soldiers not having the best box of cigars I could afford even if he could not afford them.
With that, in uniform, he stepped through the security check point leaving behind his new wife, his 1 week old baby girl, and a free country.

Well, please pass along our best to him and how about a few details? What branch/unit and what does he do? As a Vietnam vet I think it sux that a person has to spend more than one year in a combat zone. I guess things are different with an all volunteer military but when you start taking the reserves over there for more than one deployment it makes me wonder how much longer we can sustain a strong defense without going back to a draft situation. I have heard that no matter who gets elected next November, the new commander in chief will need to resort to conscription to maintain or grow the services. And please tell your sister how much we all appreciate her husband's sacrifice of time away, when he should be enjoying his new child with her.

That almost sounds strangly like my one brothers situation. Got married then 2 weeks later went for mobilization to Iraq and Kuwait. Came home a year later for awhile then got shipped to Germany. His wife was due with his first child a month in his tour in Germany. Flew him home for the babys birth for 2 weeks then left again for almost a year. Back in time for her first birthday on the first.

Good deed, I have only the highest respect for the fighting men in uniform.
