Gold Wing seat on a CX 500...

I'm new to this forum, and this is my first post. I've been poking around and enjoyed the info here.
I got a '79 CX500 Custom a couple months back, and have been contemplating longer rides. A couple things have bothered me. I love the bike, but a few things I wanted.
First was a fairing, so I found that and installed that, but it's not right, so hopefully the right brackets are on their way (I purchased them on Ebay). Then it was the comfort issue. Which is what prompted this post.
I like to be comfortable. And thought that I might be more so, if I had a better seat, like from a Gold Wing or something. I looked on Ebay, and nothing really worthwhile is under 200 dollars. Which is ok, but more than I wanted to spend on an experimental situation. So, I found one on Craigs list for 75 dollars, and picked it up.
The seat is probably 6 inches or more longer than the stock seat. So, I knew some cutting of either the seat or the bike, or both would need to be done. I looked at it long and hard, and opted to cut the front part of the seat's hard shell, under the foam back about 3 to 4 inches and attaching the original attachment to this seat, leaving the foam intact as much as possible. And then cutting the luggage rack a bit to allow the seat to fit as best as possible. Turned out that I had just enough room after both those allowances were made.
And now my wife loves it, and I've found probably the most comfortable seat I could, so I'm stoked.

Next problem is the smallish gas tank, and a backrest for when I'm riding by myself, oh and some freeway bars...

Nice job on the seat. I can see where it is definetly 3 or 4 inches longer in the back but it looks like it fit's just fine with the sissybar rack on the back. You should take a few more pictures of the seat off the bike maybe side by side to the pieces that you cut off so someone else can do what you have done easier. Oh Yeah what year and size goldwing did it come off of?

I'll have to do that. At the time I didn't know if it was going to work in the first place, so I was so focused on making it work and consumed with how to make it work that the thought of documenting the steps didn't occur to me.
I got the seat from a craigs list ad which said, "Goldwing Aspencade parts 1980-83 GL1100". I even got the backrest thing, but without welding something on, I don't think I can use it. I'm still thinking about that situation.
I think this is the seat I bought, it's from his ad.
