Another Very Happy CX'r .....

bfknova 07-11-2008, 2:07 PM

A very good Friday - as the bike passed the MV Inspection - n' I met a new mechanic friend, Bruce -  as he has 3 Triumphs,
a Norton, a BSA, a Royal Enfield, yet told me he also works on Honda's, but not many other Jap bikes - albeit also said that he's never seen any like mine - of which I stated, n' you never will - as it's one of a kind <LOL> ... anyway, it was a  beautiful day for a ride - n' Bruce works outta his garage near Peggy's Cove - so, I took my time coming home, along the seashore, around St. Margaret's Bay - n' ended up putting on 165 km (so a good test ride, n' it ran pretty good, along with the usual head's turning ! ) -  also on the way home I stopped in at a cousin's and got two new rectangular mirrors and an' ol' leather Harley frilled seat cover along with a dozen cold ones - so I'm home now - n' tonight I probably will do a little more very minor tweeking on the bike (carbs, tappets, install  mirrors, n' start on the new seat pan) ...... so another very happy CX'er !!!!!  Will send pics after I make the changes .....

Cheers, n' Happy Trails Ahead,

Congats Bryan on your success. Now doesn't that feel better that parting it out. BTW; don't forget to re torque the heads if you put new head gaskets in it.

Aye, Larry, it feels great !!!!! ....... thanks for the heads up re: the head bolts ....... also noticed the front exhaust nuts could us a tightening as they also have new gaskets - along with probably most of the bolts !!!  Hence: still on trial runs and got a good one in today ...... so time for another brew and gonna keep smiling from ear to ear ....... as I do enjoy the rides along the seashore - with my next test run being our local nude Crystal Beach ...... albeit only 10 miles, it's a fun ride !!!!!!!

Cheers, n' Happy Trails Ahead,

Bryan

After I ran my sons 80 Cx with freshened heads for only about 2 miles, I let it cool over night and then re torqued the heads. I had to turn them almost an 1/8th of a turn with the torque wrench to get it to click at the proper setting with just that little time on the motor. We ran it for a couple more days and re torqued them again and they still moved a little more to get the setting right. 3 times seams to be the magic # Bryan. These head gasket settle very quickly, and you have to stay on them quickley to keep them from leaking in the future.
Wish I had an ocean view close by to ride along! Must be nice though. Congrates again Bryan!

Aye, I'm only 1/2 mile from Halifax Harbour (Northwest Arm) and 7 miles from Herring Cove (along Purcell's Cove Road) hence: all rocks, boats n' seashore ...... and multiple lakes n' forests n' parks in between and mostly cowpath curves along the shore - so again, a biker's dream ..... as I've ridden the (2,800 plus miles) circumfrance of Nova Scotia a number of times (including Cape Breton's Cabot Trail) ....... so can't imagine why everyone here doesn't have a bike ??? ......

Cheers, n' Happy Trails Ahead,

Bryan

Albeit there are a lot of bikes - as I probably saw 4 dozen bikers today on my short trial run ...... and tomorrow (Saturday) I'll probably see many more ...... otherwise, guess the nicest feature of Nova Scotia is that regardless of where you are within the province - your only 50 miles from the Atlantic ....... yet guess a bad feature is there's constant salt in the air - so metal rusts very quickly ......

That is great Bryan. Glad you are back on the road. Tommarrow morning we are going on a little ride through the appalacian mtns. and a stop at a nearly local bike night. Though it will be on my honda shadow (won't get near as many looks and comments.) It will still be fun. I need to get away for a few hours too.

Aye Tom - So glad to hear your getting out - n' don't put down your Shadow, as my cousin (who gave me the mirrors n' seat cover today) has a '85 VT500 Shadow in his 3rd floor apartment living room (which we're trying to get back on the road real soon) ....... so I got him a new oil filter, n' gonna work on his seat pan n' fabric, n' a new battery ..... otherwise, a really nice looking bike ...... n' looking forward to getting it back on the road, n' ride together along the shoreline (no mountain's here - but big 45 degree hills <grin>) ....... anyway, enjoy your day - n' keep smilin' - as life is what we make it !!!!!!!!!!  Your gonna get your Silverwing flying again and I do pray your wife will get better !!!!!   Remember, I died 3 times in the past 11 years (heart failure) - but the devil don't want me yet <grin> ........

God Bless, n' Cheers ...

Bryan

Cheers again ....

You'll get that thing running. It's good to have a riding buddy. Everybody I ride with rides harleys. They are a great bunch of guys even though they are a rough looking bunch. (grin). No luck on the side cover, If I come across one I'll let you know.

Aye Tom - We'll get it going and out of my cousin's living room - and it will be nice to occassionally ride with a buddy, albeit mostly I ride solo - as most of my riding buddies are riding lawn tractors <grin> ...... otherwise, taking a closer look at the Harley seat cover last night - someone tried to paint it black, so it's all cracked and guess I have my work cut out for me - otherwise think it will fit and look nice (with a little stuffing) ...... so before I get into today's drinks - I should take a ride up to Canadian Tire and get a bottle of lacquer thinner (naye to drink - but to remove the paint) <LOL> ......

Cheers, n' Hope you have a good day ahead,

Bryan

Had a really nice ride yesterday, even though it piss poured the rain on us. About 250 miles. Through the mnts., across Wolf creek dam, and around lake Cumberland. Didn't get to see the scenery you see Bryan (grin).

Goodaye Tom - Glad to hear you had a nice ride yesterday - I spent most of the day cleaning up the ol' Harley seat cover (looking a lot better) - n' went to my cousin's last night with some DVD's n' a 2/4 of Moose, so crawled home (2 miles) around 5 a.m. - anyway, I found a 750 Honda engine on Halifax Kijiji that I'm thinking of buying for another winter project (raked out chopper) ????

Cheers, n' Happy Trails,

Bryan

Why not? Go for it. I am putting a 400 Kaw motor in a Triumph bobber for a buddy of mine. ( that's where I got my springer front end, trade a little work). I told him I would do it as long as he doesn't get in a hurry with me. Good thing I am not afraid of the sawzall and welder. LOL

Just got home from the local legion - n' guess my brews are over for this weekend - as had a good time playing 8-ball with Linda tonight n' she won best outta 3 <sobeit> - as such is life <grin> ....... but know I should've won - as left the 8-ball hanging on the edge of the hole - so tryed to blow it down <LOL> ........... oh well, she's a friend n' a good pool player - so didn't give in easy - albeit we were both drunk n' just playing a game .........  yet also realize that I'm quite content with my lifestyle - as women I meet seem to be domineering in their own way ....... hence: I like to be in control of most any situations ........ n' guess a male issue - otherwise, no better companion than a doggie <grin> ....... so gonna keep on ridin' n' pattin' my puppy n' play the game of life - as long as I can !!!!!!!!

Cheers, n' Happy Trails ahead,

Brtyan
