Minneapolis Grand Rounds - Saturday, July 12th

Come ride the Grand Rounds National Scenic Byway on Saturday, July 12th, followed by a potluck barbeque. Pillion occupants and others are welcome for the ride or the party.

Proposed start time is 10:30AM. The ride should take about two hours. The proposed route is here.

Please RSVP through the email link below (or to randall dot temple at bigfoot dot com), so I'll have an idea of how much meat to get. If you plan to bring something grillable to share, let me know that, too.

If you can't carry anything on your bike, come and ride anyway. I'd rather see your bike than taste your potato salad.

I've sent an email to all 42 members I could identify as being in Minnesota, to catch those who may not check the board regularly. My apologies if I missed anyone. Those from other places who want to make the trek are certainly welcome.

If you don't want to do the ride, just come for the barbeque. The grills will fire up around 1:30.

I would love to come, but I doubt my bike is ready for taking a trip of any length. Can't get work off either.

OK, there's one little complication. There's a triathlon being run on part of our route that Saturday morning. The organizers told me they would be done by noon, with the streets opening as the last participants progress.

We have too options:
1 - Meet at 10:30, eat an early lunch, then ride.
2 - Ride at 11:30 (it will be noon by the time we get to that part of the route) and have lunch later.

Does anyone have a preference? I can go either way, but I'm inclined toward the second option.

(Kudos to Don for spotting the conflict!)

It looks like we'll have nice riding weather on Saturday.

If anyone was unaware, we've moved the time to avoid a morning street closure. We'll be pulling out at 11:30. The intended route is unchanged. I'll print off some maps/directions for those who want them.

My house is the start and end point:

We'll return to my house around 1:30 to start the grill. I'll provide burgers, brats, hotdogs, soft drinks, and a fruit salad. If you can carry it, bring your favorite side dish for the potluck. We'll have some fridge/cooler space available during the ride.

If anyone I haven't heard from wants to join us for the ride or the party, you're more than welcome.
