chopped my first motorcycle frame today! (pictures now)

Hello all,
Let me start by introducing myself. My name is Andy and i
recently recieved a 1982 GL500I. It's my first bike, and my first
cafe racer project.
WOW, chopping a frame puts a smile on your face! It took me a few
beers to get up the nerve, but it's done now. Best part is that
the tail section and seat pan that i molded fit like a glove. Now
i just have to hope that my intended inspection mechanic will stick to
his word and qualify it for a reconstruct title if it doesn't qualify
for an enhanced title (Bike is in salvage right now).

You should upload em up to www.photobucket.com and then put them in your post back here.
Look forward to seeing what you did w/ the frame. I love the look of a solo seat, and have gone as far to fiberglassing a mold for my seat, but haven't done much else with it for awhile.

Hello All,
As promised, here is the link for some pictures I took right after work. I apologize for the quality. The seat pan is still a little rough.... It's going to require a tongue on the front end and a little more body filler.

Looks good. Do you have any plans for the rear pegs mounts or are they getting chopped off too?

Thanks for the encouragement guys. This has been an interesting
experience, seeing as i have never owned or worked on a motorcycle
before. I haven't decided it i'm going to use the rear foot peg mounts
to mount the exhast at a 45 degree angle or if i'm just going to get
rid of them. do you guys have any suggestions as far as mounting
the rear turn signals? I was thinking that i could JB weld a nut
in each of the frame tube ends and thread the turn signal shafts into
them.
Do you guys think i have to worry about the frame integrity now that i have hacked it to bits?

Nice Job on making and molding your own rear cowling! I would weld the nuts in though. JBWeld won't hold it though. To much vibration and weight for it to do the job for ever. If you can, I would weld them in or have someone do it for you. OR,maybe do a cut out on the back end of each side of your rear cowl and find a set you could mount up under it so they could show through the holes. I'm sure with your glassing skills you could come up with something cool. They also sell after market lights that are lighter, and would mount easier. Nice work, keep it up!
