Hardtail kickstand, how did you do it?

I have been lurking for about a week or so and love this forum. My question is what have you guys done for a kick stand after going hardtail? I was considering cutting a section out of the stock unit then using a sleave and welding it back together I just dont no if you can remove enough material to make this work. Any tips trick or suggestions greatly welcome.I will post pics of my progress as I move forward with this project. My goal is to keep it rideable during the process and be entirely complete till 9/12/08. Thanks in advance.

Your method should work fine and by using a sleeve you can test out the fit in between cuts. You can also do the same for the stand if you want to lower it.

Instead of putting a sleave on the outside of the kickstand tube, put it on the inside. When you get ready to weld the 2 pieces back together, grind the edge of each piece at a 45 degree angle, and fill the gap with the weld. Then you grind down and smooth out the weld and paint it. No one will be able to tell that it's not stock and that you modified it. That is the idea is it not? To make it look like that custom bike came that way from the factory! Hmmmm...whats with the 9-12-08 date?

Thanks for the info I am slamming this thing as low as I can. LRCXed I like the internal sleave idea however I would have thought the factory stand was solid . Do you know for a fact that it is hollow? As for the date. I am from Lancaster, PA and there is a huge bike weekend going on in conjunction with a car show. The car show has been around for years, this will be the first year for bikes to be included. The event is limited to 2500 bikes.
