Back on a CX500TC after a 20 year lapse

Turboaddict 07-15-2008, 8:52 PM
I'm back on a CX500TC after a 20 year lapse, had my first CX500TC in 83 for 5 years...  It's good to feel the boost again.  Just fixed the sticking wastegate issue.  Picked up my turbo one month ago, 22K miles,  green gasket, new stator, so thats good...  I'm looking for help with hesitation issue at around 2.8K to 3K rpm, sometimes worse sometimes not so bad and also hesitates at idel when taking off.  Tank looks real clean inside, there a non-oem fuel filter. I've put in new Iridium plugs, and did the easy stuff, oil and fiter change. Roll on boost at 55 is strong...  From what I have been reading I need to look at fuel system and ignition... Any suggestions what to look at first?  I have all the manuals...

no.......this is Mike. I'm in western connecticut.

All the things you mentioned sounded like my bike.......green gasket,,new stator, non OEM fuel filter. Guess those are the "norm" on a 25 yr old turbo !

ENJOY !!!

Sorry, but I need to ask...What is the "Green" gasket? I just picked up a 81C and noticed the front engine cover gasket is green. Same thing? or am I way off?

green gasket referred to is at the rear of the engine where the rear cover attaches to the main engine block. A green gasket (original is black or grey) is usually a good sign as it usually means that the stator has been replaced.

So I would guess that the front cover of my 81c has been off then.

Mike,
I've been in contact with Frank, he was trying to find your name so that I could get a more complete history of this CX500TC.  Frank sold it to a dealer on ebay for $2400 and the dealer flipped it to me for $2800.  The Dealer also took the tool set and the manual and sold it seperately. I did find or figure any of this out until I contacted Frank after I had bought the bike.  Dealer did give me a new right side turn signal that he got from Frank as well, Frank never got around to putting in on... Frank told me that the turn signal came with the bike when he bought it.  Frank did replace the lower fairing, brand new!  I found Frank when I asked a seller about a lower faring he had for sale on ebay in CT. Turned out to be the original fairing of my bike that I just got...  I'd like to hear more from you about this bike...  Please contact me...

This reminds me, anybody else reading this, if you have an extra tool set for a CX500 or CX500TC let me know!

Don't give me ideas like that, I woun't mind having another one myself... I don't think the wife would go for it though...

With that low miles I think it's a trailer queen for sure....  I'm surprised it's not bought yet, I saw one about 3 weeks ago go for almost $7K...  Almost the same miles...
