CX500 parts thrown out - revised

Connella08 06-26-2008, 3:12 PM
i have a bunch of left over parts from a 1980 CX500 custom that have to leave my garage by this sunday or my mother is throwing them all out!

handle bars,
collector box (rusted to hell)
air box - tossed
swing arm - tossed
triple tree - tossed
2 forks, one slightly bent
front fender (all chrome somewhat rusty) - tossed
final drive - tossed
SOLD-seat (ripped badly in top back)
shaft drive - tossed
header pipes (badly rusted but no holes) - tossed
all exhaust clamps.

newly added:
1980 complete carbs (with accel pump)
SOLD-water pump impeller (brand new)
SOLD-rear drum brake shoes (brand new)
main wiring harness (i think it has a few wires cut, but nothing too damaging)
front brake caliper (i think its frozen, not sure though)
clutch lever and headlight control assembly (missing plastic knob on the switch, but switch still works)
bunch of misc bolts
left mirror
shifter oil seal (brand new in package)

just give me a price you think is fair for the part (besides free ) and you can have it plus shipping.

Connella08,  I could use the mirror if it's the stock symmetrical round one -- I popped my right mirror off the other day, half-dumping the bike when trying to put it on the centerstand.    I also wouldn't refuse the pump seal kit, which I'll need at the end of the season.  I could even pick up, I'm not too far.  $20 sound fair?

Does anyone know if the '80 Custom mirrors are the same as the '81 GL500I?

Also, would the '80 Custom clutch lever assembly match the one on my '78 Standard?

Thanks,

R

Of course not.  The Interstate comes with a fairing and thus fairing mounted mirrors.

I would hate to see the carbs just thrown in the trash. I lost a pair that way because my inconsiderate roomate chucked them when I was out of town. I don't really need them but if nobody else wants/needs them I could take them off your hands.

Where's my brain?  I had it around here somewhere.

What about the clutch lever assembly on my '78?  My lever sags (no comments, please), and I believe it's due to wear in the switch bracket.

Randall

ever think of putting a really thin washer in there. Or you could take off the clutch lever and check out the wear and maybe fill the wore out area with JB Weld. My old one use to sag but that clutch lever was off of a cb360.

carbs are real small. i know i can get cash for them so those are allowed to stay along with anything that has gained interest in. what ever had no interest will end up in the trash.

yes, sorry. i still have them, but i was waiting for a reply from you. if you want the impellor, i was wondering if you wanted the gasket kit as well (for a price of course, nothing expensive though). if not, someone else was looking to buy it.

Do you still have the whole clutch lever/headlight controls/etc assembly?  Mine is in worse shape than I thought.

For the record, my total request is a mirror and the clutch lever assembly, and maybe the mech seal.

I think my 1978 CX500 can use the shifter seal. How much do you need for it? How much for shipping to 61104? Thank CXRick

I think you can send the shifter seals back to Honda and they will rebuild them.

so if i understand this thread correctly... if you can't sell the parts you throw them out?  i understand wanting to make money.  i agree with capitalism.  but tossing parts that aren't being made anymore just because you couldn't get cash for them?  just because you can't store them doesn't mean you can't send them to someone to use later.  i'm sure there is someone on this page that could store those parts.

the parts that have "-tossed" next to them in the forst post are the parts that are for the most part worthless, uncommon to break, and not popular for repairs. anything that doesnt have "-tossed" are parts that i know i can get money for and/or are popular repairs.

Re: CX500 parts thrown out - revised

CX Rick 07-17-2008, 5:06 AM
The seal I'm referring to is the seal around the shaft the shift lever attaches to. Mine is dripping from time to time.
