Can anyone give me suggestions as to what may be the cause of this problem? First, a little background. The bike was running fine until I took a trip about 2 hours long at 75 mph. There and back about 4 hours. The problem: Once returning home with it, It became hard to start when it was cold, but would start. It would keep winding up but eventually start. Then, when driven any distance at all and reaching operating temprature, it would not start at all once it was turned off. After about 3 hours when it cools down again, it will...finally restart. Any suggestions?
Thanks!
Don

When you say it winds up but doesn't start, does that mean the starter clanks and bangs, then spins without the engine turning? That could be the starter pawls not engaging properly.

Or does that mean the starter and the engine keep turning over (cranking) but it doesn't start? Checkthe plugs, are they sooty or wet? Try new plugs, they coast about what a gallon of gas costs now.

Most likely though, check the rubber vacuum hose that goes from the right carb to the vac operated petcock, it might have split ends that are losing vacuum and starving the carbs for fuel.
