Boston to HTTA Amish Rally: Friday haulin'
|

Hello folks. As a new and enthusiastic CX owner, I am planning to make the Amish Rally this year. I'm hauling down Friday and returning Sunday, and since I would enjoy sharing the road with some riders, I thought I might post my route here and see who says what. I would also like advice on the route itself, since I pieced it together from an atlas and don't actually know many of the roads involved -- I mostly just followed the green dotted lines.
First, here is a Google Maps link to the route. 415mi, 8h40 estimated.
Now, human-readable:
- I-90W out of Boston. 65mi slab
- Exit 3 to US-20W in Westfield. Follow US-20 to MA-23W. 38mi scenic
- US-7S at Great Barrington. 13mi scenic
- US-44W/CT-22W at Canaan, CT. Follow into NY. 215mi scenic
- Taconic State Pkwy south at Millbrook. 18mi scenic
- I-84W near Fishkill. 60mi slab
- US-206/Old Mine Road/NJ-615/Hope Rd south near Milford, NY. On NJ side of NY/NJ border. 38mi scenic
- I-80W at Hope, NJ. 120mi slab, final approach.
Ideas? Travelers?
thanks,
-pete

Here's a couple of suggestions:
On I-84 E get off about one exit earlier, in Port Jervis/Mattamoras and avoid Milford, it's a very busy touristy town. Your choice to go down the east side of the Delaware Water Gap is good, it's very scenic and windy, but have a pretty good map, there are a number of roads in there. The west side of the DWP is nice enough after Milford and until you get to Stroudsberg, which can be horrible with traffic, more so on the weekends I suspect.
Earlier, the Great Barrington, Sheffield, Caanan, Salisbury leg is small town pretty and rural.
JumpsuitSteve in East Longmeadow, MA might be a possibility for you to hook up with, he's got a GL that might want to go to PA.
Hmmmmm, I'm wondering, still not sure what my specific plans are for PA, right now Dave and I are getting ready to head for VMD in Ohio on 7/24.

If I end up being in Boston instead of PA at the time of the Rally I'd be happy to ride with you. Don't really have any suggestions about the route, when I go down to Maryland I typically take 90 to 84 superslab all the way, just because I enjoy the riding when I'm where I'm going and try to get there as fast as possible. Either way, I'd be happy to come along!

Hey guys
I'm still ironing out my schedule, but once I know what is up I will let you know. I don't have too much experience with the routes though.
Still, seems like a killer ride and I'd love to tag along and share some experiences.
until then.

Relax Phil, I'm more into MPG than MPH these days. Found I can get 48 to the gal if I keep the RPMs to 3000. Helps a bit on tire mileage too.
