Shorten throttle and return cable?
Reply Quote
Hey guys,

I know somewhere on the forum this has been discussed but without the search capability enabled I coudn't find it.

I need to shorten the throttle and return cables on my 1982 cx500c. I've looking them over pretty closely and it seems like it should be possible to do it myself. Anyone attempted it and if so suggestions?

Thanks,

Fenix

It's not as easy as you think. The ends are a lead/tin alloy I think.I tried some time ago and it didn't last long before one end went.I don't know your Town situation but in my city we have a bike shop that will make or amend cables correctly.Checkout your Yellow pages.
You can buy solderless nipples but then you would have to get the right size and remove the screw and tin them correctly, again a bit hit-and-miss.

Thanks Shep! Really appreciate it. Did find a place that will make shorter cables here in town.

In this post I told how I was able to do it very successfully! Read through it and I'm sure you can shorten what you have! My sons bike has short bars on it too, and is working flawlessly!

Thank you for the vote of confidence Tom! I have always done things like my signature says! Funny you should mention putting all the tips together. I'm working on doing just that right now. I have to do a lot of editing from the posts, and as I'm a 2 finger keyboard poker, it will take some time. I'm glad I have been able to share what I've learned so far, and hope it will help anyone that needs it. I miss some key points some times and appreciate the input of all the members of this forum, it helps when I'm getting scatter minded and pass up a point or 2. Some of these things I have learned comes from input of the people! I'll be going back to work on Monday, so things will slow down a little on my end. But I'll always do what I can to help if you need it.
I hope your wife is doing better by the way!
Larry
