Carb Sync. adjustment lock nut

the cheese 07-22-2008, 6:38 PM

Please, does anyone know the size of the nut? I've seem to have lost mine. Tryed Lowes and a couple of parts stores with no love.

I've tried M4 M5 M6. M5 is close, but to small. M6 is way to big. I did not think anything was inbetween. Could not find anything smaller than 1/4, or I would've tried that too. If you have one to part with, what would work too.

Thanks Michael

The size is 8mm, or 5/16" works also.

I need the thread size, not the spanner size. I've pestered that poor man at lowes for three days now trying to find this nut. The guy at my local Honda shop is no help. I can not find it on the parts fiche myself. Would you be willing to mail me a nut? My gauges should be here tomarrow, this is the only thing holding me back.

Thanks, Michael

AFAIK they are 0.8mm Metric pitch.

If you have a Vernier caliper you can measure them?

I do not have a pair of calipers, they are on my list to get.

I have tried M5x.08 AND M5X1.25. Its just a hair to small. M6 was to big. I did not know there was anything inbetween.

Michael, I have one from a set of basket-case parts carbs.  It's yours if you want it.

I'll probably make it up to Homer sometime this weekend.  Or I could drop it in the mail to you.  Send me an email to work out the details.

The lock(ness)nut has been aquired. Carbs have been balanced, and all is well in the kingdom again.

Now, maybe I can put those fairing lowers on this week. I think I've been stalling enough.

Thank you again Dave.

So what size was the lock(ness)nut. Torture the lowes people as much as possible. I stop by the local Ace True Value once a week with a random nut or screw. Got this one guy all pissed off because I wanted a screw with a hex head and he could only find phillips or slotted. Last bolt I got was the one to remove the radiator. m14 1.5 2 inches long. They had them hidden in a little box.

I still don't know the size. It is a vey fine thread pitch. It would not fit on any of the peg bolts at lowes. Before I put it back on I wanted to know for myself, so I went up there. Its funny, if they see me up there ( next to the bolts) they run now.

I can't wait till I can start getting those looks. Last time I dropped in for screws there was a girl who i thought was going to ask me for help and all I could think is that she was wearing the tool belt for looks. What happened to those old guys that actually know where stuff is? All seem like there 16-18 and only got a job in a hardware store because somebody forced them. One of the kids was trying to get me to pay $10 for a $3 feeler gauge. I told him the sign next to it said $3 and got it for that price. He then said that his supervisor who was 18 got pissed off one night and changed a bunch of prices in the computer before he quit. You would have thought he would have lowered the prices instead of raising them.

Cheese, I just went out and measured it for you. It is 5mm X 0.5 thread pitch. Very fine threads. Do you need a nut for one? I doubt your going to find one at Lowes. I'll see if I have one I can take off a bad carb if you do.

Larry,
A couple lines up it says he aquired one. Damn thread pitch. First we have to worry about standard, metric, fine and course thread and now we have pitch. How many screws types do you need.

Just as a FWIW, McMaster-Carr carries the M5 - 0.5 pitch nut....BUT....it is only available in a pack of 50 for $13.25. Their part number is 91415A030.

Thanks guys. Now I at least know what size it was. Don't care how much , or how many you have to buy. It would have been better than screwing with Lowes. And a whole lot better than taking the seat and tank off 3 times after I got home from work. I have had simple jobs turn into long drawn out affairs before, But this was ridiculas.
