I have two petcocks
One seems to work decent but when I turn it from on/off/reserve the face section thats riveted together flexes and leaks fuel out of it.
Two leaks around the mounting nut. I replaced the gasket with an o-ring and it blocked off the reserve passage. I then got a rubber gasket similar to the original and it leaks unless it's turned just right.
Can I do anything to stop the front face from flexing?
Is there a secondary gasket that I can get that won't block off the reserve and not leak?
Is there a cheap replacement petcock out there?

I don't know for your bike but the UK CXs petcock is a standard 14mm stock one that screws in,no rivets?also we never had the Vacuum Petcocks/carbs here unless they were on a Custom import AFAIK.

I fixed mine a couple of weeks ago. I drilled out the rivets all the way thru to the back, took out the wave washer, turned the 4 holed rubber thingie inside over and put it back together with tiny machine screws and nuts. I also lubed the inside with a silicone valve lube. No leakie yet. I have done this on several petcocks and haven't had a problem.

If they are constructed like the vacuum petcocks, they are not rivets, but staked alloy studs, part of the body casting. I drill and tap for a small (maybe US 4-40 thread) machine screw to reassemble. On the vac units, flipping the rubber disk (as mentioned) has worked fine for me. The holes to drill are small and not much room for error or crooked drilling though. You do have a "practice part" though, a nice backup.

I built a new petcock at my local lowes. I got a fuel rated valve, and 3 other peices along with gas teflon tape, and it cost me 14$. Take your old petcock to match the threads & just make a new one outa brass :)
cheap basted I am!

This was four or five months ago, and it doesn't leak a drop. I turn it off everytime I kill the bike.

A side from not having a reserve that doesn't look to bad. Do you run an inline fuel filter. Wonder if I could get the first piece off the tank with a 90 degree angle.

My mom has pet hens but she thinks one is a lesbian because it keeps walking around the yard strutting its stuff trying to crow. She says it also hangs out with the two roosters a lot.

I have repaired my leaking petcock the following way:
Drill out or file off the existing rivet heads, then by using a 2.5 mm drill bit drill almost through the petcock body, taking great care not to drill too deep as you will go right through. Remove the front plate with the "On", "Off" and "Res" lettering, followed by the rotating part.
Remove the current worn X-ring from the rotating part and replace with an O-ring of the same size (available from any auto spares supplier). If I remember correctly the size is 21 x 1.5mm, but take the X-ring along as a sample.
Then you can either re-thread the 2.5mm holes you drilled above with metric 3.5mm thread or 1/8" BSW thread and fit screws to secure the front plate, or use a 1/8" drill bit to open up the holes to accept 1/8" pop rivets in order to re-secure the front plate.
Should the petcock ever start leaking again, it will be quite easy to remove the screws or pop-rivets and replace the O-ring with a new one.

Sounds like I should pick up the 21 x 1.5 x-ring. how much different is and x ring from an o ring.
