Hi all!

Love the silverwing, new to riding all together and I have a few questions for ya.

1) Is the tank 3.5 or 4.5 us gallons?

2) Is it easy to find a new tank? mines rusty and has a small dent.

3) Can anyone give me the specs on the engine? OHV? SOHC? DOHC?

Thanks for helping a newbie out!

welcome, feel free to sign up and sign in.

GL500i:

1) 4.6 gallons

2) it is relatively easy to find another tank on ebay or at a junkyard but it is also likely to be dented and rusty. There are products to deal with the rust.

3)80 degree V-twin, OHC 497 "cubes"

Hey. Welcome to the club. I took a very memorable bike trip to the Iron Range one time. Anywhere close to you?

I can help out on the questions as I have a bike exactly like yours.

1) It should have the 4.5 tank. It's actually a hair more, but 4.5 is about all you can expect to get out of it through the tube.

2) Yeah, you can find em. It's almost easier to find a replacement engine than a really good fuel tank, though. If the dent isn't too bad, it might be OK to clean the rust out and live with the dent. Maybe body filler?

3) Specs:
Dual OHV. Oil: 3.2 qt Spark: D8EA .026"

It will be REALLY useful to buy a service manual or, at least, view the one which is online.

Hi its me all signed in!

Thanks for all the answers!

Yes I live outside of Hibbing, MN its such nice country to ride up here.   I have been taking the silverwing 36 miles to work one way and I have been loving it.   Shes all tuned up and I just had new tires put on her. Only thing is though I am a tall person 6'5" and my legs get kind of cramped, but I can deal with it.

I think I will get the tank sanded and painted and the dent is not too bad.

I looked for a service manual but couldent find one, but I will look again.

thanks,

Frank

Welcome Frank. Look under the links tab for Rob's CX500 Fix-it Page. He has lots of good information. An hour of reading there is a great education about these bikes. The following is from an old post:

"I don't know where you can find a Factory Shop Manual for the CX650, but you can download one for the GL500/650 at http://hondatech.info/downloads/Moto/ Click on GL to find the GL500-650 manual and click on Common to find the Honda Common Service Manual. They should have most of the important information you need."

Shep,

I didn't get a PM. Well, I may have gotten it. The e mail address I used to register here is my wife's. So, I don't always find out when I get mail. But, I did discover the new site because somebody had it linked in a post over here. It's already book marked.
