Here it is. Camp is reserved for August 20th. through and including August 24th. The Rate is $10.00 per night per person. This will not be the last time you see this posting. Plan your summer accordingly, if you wish to attend. There will be a hybrid Honda GL500/MGB trike there.

How bout a midwest rally. Someones gotta have a corn field to spare. Something to coax the Minneapolis/St Paul gang out of the woodwork and be a bit closer for the surrounding 8 or so states.

Stitch, What does this have to do with the Amish Rally in PA.?
All you need is a dedicated organizer and promoter and you could also have a successful Rally. But it's the people who really make it successful.

Gene McCall and I decided on the central Pennsylvania area because it was about halfway (Well, not quite, it must have been because of the cheap camp.) between his home in TN and my home in VT and actually draws riders from a wide geographical circle

Has absolutely nothing to do with the Amish Rally it's just a question. The more rallys the more of us meet up. They handed out union updates at work and for some dumb reason I have to turn in my vacation time now but I cant take it till I've been there a year working under the union which will be borderline the time of the rally. But since August is the last month they let people request time off and turn them down a lot I don't think it's going to happen.

BS, I hope you do put it in and can attend. Phil, as far as what rally is discussed here it doesn't make any difference! We all enjoy these old bikes (even if some of us no longer own one, at the present time) and the more discussion and the more rallies we can get started the better for the hobby. Since I am in the south it is a pretty good haul for me either to Penn. or to Indianna or maybe Iowa but I would like the opportunity to go. I realize it is easier for old farts like me to attend but with more rallies in different areas we will get more folks who can maybe make a long weekend out of it. What we need to remember is these things should be FUN and provide a chance for good fellowship. I'll get off my soapbox and take another nap (thats what old farts do when they're not out riding).

BS,

I have suggested several times to have a rally within a rally. BMW Rallies welcome all bikes as long as they aren't terribly loud. I have seen the CMA (Christian Motorcyclists Association) hold rallies within a rally. I have seen MotoGuzzi riders do the that and I have seen others at BMW rallies hold a rally within a rally.

There is no excuse for not having a CX/GL rally within a BMW rally and then everyone else does all the planning for you. Their rallies almost always include dinners, music, camping and bands for a modest fee. ($25-45) Usually the rallies run Thursday night or Friday through Sunday at which point everyone heads home.

BMW rallies are usually cheaper than the Amish Rally, but don't include double beds and indoor sleeping ... which is worth the price difference of not having bands and a couple of dinners.

Don't complain, pick a rally for a rally within a rally and let's get together. The Iowa BMW rally might be a good choice since they are the last BMW rally in the nation that includes free beer 24/7. But you won't see any drunks there. The BMW rallies are just like that.

Here is the website for when and where there are rallies.
http://www.bmwmoa.org/

Other than that Brian from Minneapolis went to the Amish Rally with me last year ... you could make the ride too.

WayneDW, Our very first PA rally was closer to a more Amish neighborhood, so, for lack of any other suggestions, named it the HTTA Amish Rally. You can be pretty much whatever you want to, except late for the Country Cupboard.

New CXer here, what exactly happens at one of these rallies? It sounds like a great way to meet other CX lovers, but I doubt I will be able to make it as I will with any luck be on my honeymoon that weekend. And before you suggest, as much fun as an mc roadtrip honeymoon would be, the love of my life has not yet herself fallen in love with the 2-wheeled life.

What better way to introduce the love of your life to joys and thrills of the wonderful 2-wheeled life    than to take her on a trip to the Amish rally!!!!

Randall,

That is why they make sidecars. The youngest passenger one time at a BMW motorcycle rally was 13 days.

Greg,

Your idea sounds good to me and yes, the food is that good.

Jfarabee,

Your wife dosen't have to ride with you, but make sure she has no objections to you riding, after you are married, before you get married. I am serious about it.

I have seen several divorces when the wife was a jerk because the husband wanted to ride after the they were married. She expected that he would "give it up for her" after the wedding. If you can't ride and you really want to do so, the marriage probably isn't worth it. My wife rides with me, but I told her point blank before we got married to never make me chose between her and riding ... as she would lose.

Yes, that conversation has already happened. I was riding before I met her, and she has ridden with me a couple of times on my dad's Rebel. She does not mind me riding, she just doesn't like me spending all my money on a bike. She really is a blessing, and I hope I never have to choose between bikes and her. But, if I can get her riding, then that means more quality time with the two of us.

Might be a tight fit at Daves. Guess he's going to have to park the Wiener Mobile out on the street. At least we will know where the house is. Simple directions if you see a big wiener stop.

Jerry, as time for the rally gets closer lets see if we can't link up again, maybe on the Blue Ridge.

Phil, thanks for the new avatar, I plan to swipe the image, blow it up and put a copy out in my garden next spring!

Phil, now that you mention it,...Yes! At the time it just seemed neat to have one foot in Canada and one foot in the US but your idea sounds good too.

Phil,
The way things are looking right now, there may well be a contingent of (3) bikes heading to the Amish from Ottawa, Canada.
If that is ok ? ( one being a "Suzuki" oh heaven forbid.....LOL ).

Here it is. Camp is reserved for August 20th. through and including August 24th. The Rate is $10.00 per night per person. This will not be the last time you see this posting. Plan your summer accordingly, if you wish to attend. There will be a hybrid Honda GL500/MGB trike there.

Where exactly in PA is the rally at?

I'll try to make it up from Miami, Its only a 1000 miles or so lol. My birthday falls on the 19th of August so it wont be hard to talk the wife into it :)

one 2500 mile trip and one 1100 mile trip in the same year. sounds good to me.

Dave, you may as well post a map now. It will give others an idea of where the Amish is located.

BTW I finally got around to uploading a few pictures to Photobucket (its free) and I don't think you have seen this one of the rig in Dawson City, YT

David, I was just trying to publish one photo at a time on this board, not the entire photobucket site. But thats OK, I will put more pictures up on that site, I just doubt if I am going to put up much info on each photo.

I know you were at the Amish, you camped next to the Lil Bunkhouse, you saw the rig.....Don is healthy as a horse, he is in no way handicapped. I have the permit since I have only 27% function left in my heart.

That permit caused a number of converrsations on our trip. At one point Don & I got into a heated conversation with a fellow in a Walmart parking lot. He didn't think anyone riding a motorcycle or sidecar should have such a permit. I finally told him where he could go and offered to help him get started on his way!
