New Quick Reference update. The old info is at the bottom.

Well this is what I have done. The quick links may not answer every question that you have but they answer some. I'll continue to updated it as I find other things. Got a scare this morning as I couldn't access Sheps site where I compiled the info.

Blindstitch, you might want to take the top link out of your post.  No more manuals at that link.

How about the stator check - resistance when off blue wire. white wire, etc.  Tried to search, but apparently i'm not that good.  Great info on everything up there btw.   Thanks for taking the time to get it all together.

To our new members. This is a great place to be part of and get all the help needed to maintain or resurrect a bike from the dead.

But before you get into all of that there are a few things you should know.

#1 Location is important. Put it in your profile.

This is a big forum and the world is a big place. So if your in Europe and ask for new muffler suggestions and we say get some Harley take offs that's not going to really help you seeing as over in the U.S. you can get a set for $20 where as the equivalent in Europe might be a lot more.

Also if you say you want to buy a tire for under $100 and want a good one location plays a good deal on currency. Dollars, pounds, loonie, whatever....

#2 Put the type of bike you have in your signature line.

We may share a common title CX or Gl but they aren't all the same. Yes they belong to the same family and look similar but there are differences. So if you say "I need a new coil" there are CDI bikes and TI bikes and the parts don't work interchanged. So if you put the bike type and style in your signature we won't have to ask you what you have.

#3 When you start a post title it something related to your problem.

When you start a new post don't put "I need Help" in the subject line. Everyone needs help.  A better subject line would be "Bike running on one cylinder" or "Rear brake Squeal"

Then in the message explain exactly what is happening or you think is happening. If it happens at a certain rpm or something. All the informative details you can give.

#4 If nobody replies.

If nobody replies give it some time or add some more info. We work on our own times and not everyone knows everything about these bikes. So be patient as the guy that knows the answer might be in bed or still at work but we are here to help. If the post starts crawling down the page with no posts just bump it up to the top.

#5 Enjoy the Forum.

We moderate ourselves and are a pretty friendly bunch so enjoy.

 Hey, Stich,

I really appreciate your work compiling all this information and of course also the members here who provide it to begin with.

I am about to go into my clutch because it has the clunking sound that mostly goes away when the handle is pulled in. I couldn't find anything about clutch work but I think I recall in the past information on making the special tool that is needed.

Anyway, a link or if anyone has the information would help me out.

 Thanks, again.

This is a nice piece of information that probably shouldn't get lost.
These seals are starting to age, and it will most likely become more common.
This is especially an issue in the turbo models (two of my four have had it).

Thank You "Stitch" for this post and everyone else for the thread. Great reference stuff here!
Just finished parusing the squeaky pro-link threads.
The bumps along the James Bay Road in northern Quebec irritated my pro-link and now rootBEER has a case of the "squeaks". Glad for this information along with the info in the Honda Service manual. Some wrenchin for me to do on the GL now in between boots on the turbo.
Feel good to bond with both of the girls :=)
